What is the real cost of your hires?

The hiring process is a kind of black hole that pulls in a lot of time, money, and effort. But we can change that with a more conscious approach.

One team member traveling all the way to the Black Mountain job offer can cost your company $200 or $10 000.

Let's come up with such a candidate. Name him John. John Doe, if you want.

John is a Senior developer that works for a US company onsite. He makes $84000 a year (or $91000 with a 13th payment). Reasonable number.

John's company pays taxes, around $20-25/year, so the load grows, but this is ok - everyone pays taxes, right?

But back to the roots - John's hiring. We know that the company spent approximately $6000 to hire him. And the more difficult stack he has - the higher the cost. A lot of times, it grows beyond $10k, so the company spends more and more.

And the last part of this formula: if John lives in the US, his education, insurance, onboarding, and benefits can cost up to $30k a year for the employer.

So the $91k salary turns into $150k with a finger-snap.

So what do we suggest?

To know what costs to reduce, you should know these costs. So the first step would be to figure out how much your company spends on hiring and team. This way, you will not feel that money is slipping between your fingers. Also, this will help to see practical solutions to particular problems.

Like remote work. Why do you need to hire only developers and managers from your country if everyone is remote? You can look for A-player type developers in the cheaper markets with more offerings. You can reduce hiring costs by up to 50% just because your dev team is in Tbilisi, Kyiv, or Istanbul.

To see estimates of every hire, we created a True-cost Calculator:

πŸ”— True-cost Calculator

Every technology stack is available there (and if something is missing, contact us, please), so it will automatically calculate the salary, overheads, benefits, taxes, and hiring costs.

Moreover, you can use the calculator to see the difference in these costs among the countries. Many companies are shocked that you can hire "the Harry Potter of development" in Ukraine, but the benefits, taxes, and hiring costs would be five times smaller. And both sides would be happy to work together.

We live in such a global world that your small startup can operate with a team working from 5 different countries. This is the new norm. So we created the calculator to make this norm a little more precise.

To start, hit the link, make yourself a copy of the calc, and try to calculate the position you are looking.

PS. If you need the data on particular countries, contact us, and we'll add it.
